ANSWERS
What is the Aboriginal Curatorial
Collective (ACC)?
The ACC is a national service
organization that brings together the Canadian Aboriginal
and Native American curatorial, critical and institutional
communities. The aim is to establish an important centre
of excellence for our communities through opportunities,
collaborations, networks, publications, advocacy, conferences,
exhibitions and standards of excellence for our communities.

Who is eligible to become
a member of the ACC?
Membership in the ACC is open
to all active members of the curatorial and critical
communities, including individual and institutional
memberships. The cost for a membership is $25 CAN per
year. There are three different levels of membership
available in the ACC. For Canadian Aboriginal (Indian,
Inuit and Metis) there is full and unrestricted membership
participation that includes the right to actively seek
a position in organizational structure and including
full member voting rights in ACC. Native Americans have
full access to all programs and services and participation
on the international committee, but voting rights and
positions in the organizational structure are restricted.
Non-aboriginal and non-Native American individuals and
institutions actively engaged in the curatorial and
critical communities are welcome to join the ACC. Membership
is limited to specific services and events of the ACC,
and does not include participation in the organizational
structure or voting rights. As well, the on-line exhibition
space and featured artist/curator services are not included
with membership. For further information, please consult
the ACC By-laws on membership. BACK

What information and services
does my membership include?
All members of the ACC have full
and timely access to the ACC newsletter featuring selected
and thematic articles and a variety of exhibition, conference
and publication reviews written by our Aboriginal and
Native American membership. Also, our What’s Happening
section provides our membership with information on
all activities relating to our curatorial and critical
community. As well, all members have access to the Aboriginal
and Native American curatorial and critical biographical
summaries of our active membership, and unlimited access
to our extensive on-line bibliographic database consisting
of regularly updated articles, books, catalogues including
published and unpublished materials pertaining specifically
to the Aboriginal and Native American curatorial and
critical community and practices. Membership in the
ACC also accords all members with a reduced fee for
all ACC organized conference, symposium and special
events. BACK TO

Does my membership allow me
to get more involved in the ACC organizational structure
and business?
That depends on whether or not
you are a Canadian Aboriginal or Native American. Both
Canadian Aboriginal and Native Americans, whether they
represent an organization or themselves have additional
rights to participation than non- Aboriginal or non-Aboriginal
institutional membership. Canadian Aboriginal and Native
American individuals and institutions have full access
to the ACC private tiki wiki space set aside for members
to work, network, post articles, host discussions, and
share other information on their own personal tiki space
with other Aboriginal and Native
American members. Further involvement
is accorded Canadian Aboriginal members who are able
to vote on ACC organizational business and can participate
fully in all general assemblies, special meetings, thematic
committees and caucuses, while Native American members
have the exclusive ability to participate on the International
committee, although they are not accorded the right
to vote or seek a position within the ACC organizational
structure. BACK

How can I stay in touch, contact
and network with other members?
All members have the ability to
contact one another by submitting their contact information
with their membership form, including a brief biographical
sketch, resume, exhibition history, publications and
area of expertise. The ACC will post this information
in an effort to encourage dialogue and provide opportunities
for our membership to actively become engaged in the
curatorial and critical communities. The ACC maintains
and archives all membership forms and contact information
and can assist members and non-members to communicate
and/or contact one another. The ACC also hosts a biennial
conference and symposium and other special national
events that will bring our membership together to discuss
current trends, developments and other thematic or adhoc
initiatives pertinent to our domestic and international
membership. Canadian and American First Nations members
have another level of communication accorded by the
tiki wiki space.
